Complete Electrical Schematic
« on: December 15, 2012, 08:27:26 AM »
Hi Folks,

I wanted to inquire whether anyone has created a complete DC wiring schematic for their boat. The diagram in the P323 owners manual leaves a lot of detail out.

I know that the wiring on each of our boats is different based on various levels of customization, but in an effort to create a schematic for My Cyn, I was hoping to build upon a diagram that someone has already started.

Happy holidays!

I had to do a fair amount of rewiring on Selene.  I started with the wiring diagrams in the manuals: http://www.pearson323.com/documents/323manual1978.pdf; They were useful in providing a basic orientation to the system.  However, there were so many changes - although mainly additive - I found it a useful starting point but no more.

I was replacing a panel, and so ended up tracing and replacing (as necessary) any new circuits one circuit at a time.

A few learnings (apologies if you are a pro!):
* Buy a good crimper; I had to replace MANY badly crimped connections.  I bought a double and single crimper, and don't regret it at all.  Poorly crimped connectors was the biggest source of failure in my electrical system.
* The heat-shrink labels (numbered/letters) are very useful.
* I really like the spiral-wrap plastic cable organisers you can get from any hardware store. - it is great for bunching wires together, and because of the spiral wrap it does not trap moisture.
* Blue Sea stuff is expensive, but the really nice - I love their backlit labels!
* My favorite projects site http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/boat_projects has some useful electrical articles....
