Title: alternator belt squeal.
Post by: grzano on April 11, 2022, 11:10:08 PM
Good evening my intrepid Pearson peer group.

Last year I had an issue where the alternator belt would squeal between 1800 and 2100 rpm. I had the unit rebuilt over the winter and installed it yesterday. I replaced the belt because the other belt was coming apart, anyway, I still have the squeal problem. The alignment seems good, so, I am stumped.

Does anyone have any recommendations in this regard?

All the best,

Greg

Are you using a solid belt?  If so, replace it with a notched belt of the same size.
A solid belt has a hard time with the tight radius bend of the A4's small alternator pulley.
This puts even less belt in contact with the pulley, allowing it to slip and squeal
under high load.
