Title: Cabin Fans
Post by: Sweet Pea on February 13, 2014, 10:52:23 PM
Any one have suggestions on installing fans in the V berth and saloon? I'm thinking about using Hella Turbo fans. Looking for any help on wiring and placement. If you have photos of your installation, all the better!

I have the Hella Turbos too.  They're very power efficient compared to the fans I had.  But a lot more flimsy.

I currently have a temporary arrangement with one fan mounted on a large spring clamp with a long cable and a cigarette lighter plug on the end.  I clamp it to the the top rim of the doorway into the V-berth. It's simple and effective, but is in the way when you're moving around, and you can't close the sliding door.

My permanant plans are to mount two of them on the V-berth side of the bulkhead, one on either side of the doorway and up high.

I was thinking about mounting them on the wood panel along the side of the V berth as near to the bow end as possible. Do you think I need to run a separate circuit up there or can I splice into the cabin lights wires?

You should be fine using the cabin light circuit.  I think the OEM wiring was AWG 12.

Sweet Pea,

I installed a Caframo Ultimate in the V-berth where you describe (http://www.caframo.com/marine/marine_products_12voltfans_ultimate747.php).

I rant he wiring back to my starboard side cabin lights and it has worked fine.
