Title: Head vented loop

Hi Everyone,

So my toilet is shot. Replacement parts almost get me to the price of a new one since its an older unit. As i was poking around trying to understand how Pearson did things the way they did, I realized there is no vented loop from toilet to tank. Unless i am totally misunderstanding how plumbing works on a boat, If the waste tank is mounted higher then the toilet, you should have a vented loop to prevent backflow from the tank into the toilet. Am I missing something here? Does anyone out there have a vented loop from toilet to tank or is one really not needed? Thank you in advance.

On my 1982 323 I have a vented loop. It is located in the V-berth on the starboard side sandwiched between the 3 storage cubby holes and the bulkhead that separated the V-berth and the head. it is up high, almost deck high. It is not visible unless you take all the storage cubby holes apart.

Take it apart? There are 6 screws that hold the small pieces of teak onto the cubbies. The rest looks like its part of the
 v-berth liner. If you could advise how this is done, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi

There is a definitely a vented loop in that area but it's been a few years since I have had it apart so I will take another look at it over the weekend, just to double check the information I am giving you is correct.

The vented loop is 2 3/4 " but the poop pipe is 2 1/2 ,something like that.
The original pipe had a fitting to accommodate the larger vented loop.
I have replaced the poop pipe twice.
The trick is to get the white sanitation pipe, hit the end of the pipe with a heat gun, gently. The pipe reacts to heat very quickly, so go easy, then smoosh it onto the vented loop.

Thanks for all of the info. After the 6 cubby screws are removed from the starboard bins, the entire cubby system comes out. The vented loop is located there. It is plumbed with 1.5 inch hose. The toilet was installed today without any further issues. Thank you again for the pointers.
