Hey folks,
just sucked the fluid out of my Walter v-drive (connected to an Atomic 4). Do I replace with Tranny fluid? or Oil? or?
also, I have a lake water thru-hull hose going directly in to the v-drive, then exiting and going directly into the engine. So, the v-drive is water cooled? Correct? Or what?
Thanks for your help!!

The raw water is to keep the V Drive cool.
You can drain the Lube oil in the V Drive by sucking it out through the dipstick, use straight 30 oil.

Yes, straight 30 w oil is what it needs. And it doesn't take much.
Generally you will find that V-drive oil remains pretty clean because it does not experience the high temperatures, or blowby gasses, that engine oil does.
Mostly all you have to do is top it off to replace any that has managed to weep past the shaft seals.
