Sails and Canvas / Upholstery fabric for interior cushions
« on: December 04, 2012, 10:29:06 AM »
I had posted (somewhere) a few months ago, looking for the # of yards of fabric required to re-upholster all of the interior cushions.  I gave all of my cushions to my guy and he is telling me about 24 yards.  I'll let you know how accurate in a few weeks.

I'm trying to decide on a fabric.  Many say that Sunbrella is over-priced and over-rated.  I've got samples of duck canvas, nylon, acrylic and polyester.  Kind of leaning towards polyester since I hear that it resists water and fading well.  Any other experiences??

Boat Handling / Re: Backing up my P323

The first thing I'd suggest is can you back your boat into your slip?  I agree with Dolce Vita that you need to get some speed up in reverse to gain steerage.  I go about 20 yards out from my slip (guessing many of you don't have that luxury), then put her in reverse and put the throttle to high rpm's for about 20 seconds.  Once I start moving in reverse, I actually put her in neutral to eliminate prop walk entirely.  Then it is like backing a car.  Since my prop walk moves my stern to starboard, I tend to favor the port side of my slip... if I start to slow down too much I just engage the engine for a few seconds at low rpm which gives me another boost and the short blast of power moves the stern to port a tad.  Of course, having a cross wind makes the whole exercise a bit more of a geometry test.  However, once you have backed her in, there are NO problems whatsoever pulling out bow first!

Has anyone installed new gaskets in their Bomar hatches?  Curious if you used any sealants, adhesives, etc...

Ports & Hatches / Re: Deck Hatches - BOMAR

I was so happy to find this info.  I have a hatch that is leaking like crazy and the gaskets are hard as a rock.  As of today, Aug 15 2011, Pompanette in NH still has Bomar spare parts and are selling the gasket material by the foot - part # P100-52.  tel: (603) 826 5791
