Sails and Canvas / Club-footed Jib Questions

Last year I purchased a 1978 Pearson 323 which currently has a roller furling genoa. When I emptied out the gear for this boat from the previous owner's garage, I also found a club-footed jib (with hanks) and a boom that attaches to a small pedestal just 2' aft of the roller furling drum. There's also a traveler located between the mast and the front hatch, and a winch and cleat on the aft cabin top for this sail's single sheet. The sail seems to be about a 85-90% jib.
Before I invest in adding luff tape to this sail so I can try it out with the self-tending boom, I thought I should see if any other 323 owners have had experience with such an arrangement. I do know that the boom can interfere with moving around on the foredeck and anchoring...
