General Discussion / Re: Where is everybody?
« on: October 08, 2014, 09:12:42 AM »
This is  what I did last weekend.  :-\  This was my first season on Barefoot.  I am really happy with the boat.  I am impressed at how many complements I get.  (on the boat not my sailing)  one guy at the marina keeps saying how "salty" it is.  Started out in Superior WI but have now moved to a small marina in Bayfield (roys point)  right in the midst of the beautyfull apostile Islands on lake superior.
unsalted sailing!  but what a short season  I had to pull early because of some work commitment but everyone is coming out this month.  must be that song about the "gales of November"
if your interisted I have a photo site  with some shots from this summer

I love my 323  and I appreciate the nice high bridge deck  but my friends always give me grief about going into/out of  the cabin.

Interior Structures / Re: Table Post

If you drill a hole (or there may already be one)  up high on the pole then you can slide the table all the way to the ceiling and pin it out of there   this gets it out of the way
That is where I mostly  I keep it.

On "Barefoot" my  Pearson 323  #149  the shaft is offset slightly to the port side.   this has the original  Atomic 4/ Walter v-drive. RH prop      I think Ed has hit the nail on the head   it seems the A4's were offset to port  and the diesel  offset to starboard.  but then there are the boats that have had things changed around then who knows

Its sort of hard to see in this picture but its the only one I have of the prop

Cheers and stay warm

Boat Handling / Quick question

I bought a 323 last fall and have not sailed on it yet  :-\ :-\
It has the original an Atomic 4/ walters v-drive   Am I correct in assuming that in reverse this combonation tends to pull to starboard?
I need to know so I can pick out a slip where this wont be a problem   I'm thinking the dock on port side

Cheers and Happy New Years

Hi sweet pea
For this year (2014) I will keep her at Barkers.  I have a lot of work to do and they have a great shop.  but I would really be more interested in being near the apostle's  my first love on lake superior.  I am looking at the marina at cornucopia,  looks nice.  I do love the community at Bayfield  great group of sailors!

Hi All,
Just finished the purchase of "Barefoot"  hull number 149 Located at Barkers Island Marina in Superior Wisconsin. She has been sitting on the hard for 4 years.  generally she is in good shape,  interior is still great. So next spring I will begin her refit.  In Superior last Saturday  it was blowing about 35 and the temp was 49 deg F.  Horizontal rain!   to my surprise there was one hardy soul out there plowing through the waves.  It's going to be a long winter, but I will have plenty of time to plan.

PS: was the anchor platform/bow Sprite an option?  seems some 323's have it and others do not. not dependent on the year.  Barefoot does not
