Engine and Drive Train / Re: Atomic four transmission cable location
« on: October 08, 2015, 10:38:43 AM »
I have much better engagement in reverse after lowering the cable on the trans. I was aware that the reverse was friction based, so that wasn't the issue.

Now that I have reverse again, can anyone give me some pointers on getting the 323 to steer where you want in reverse? I can turn in circles to starboard, but can't get it to steer to port even if full over. I only had a few minutes to experiment so I'm sure it will get better with more practice. I do have a port side dock, and I do need to reverse to port to exit my slip so any advice is appreciated.

Engine and Drive Train / Atomic four transmission cable location
« on: October 05, 2015, 09:25:09 PM »
There is a video on YouTube where someone is explaining how to adjust an Atomic Four transmission on a 323, and I noticed that their transmission cable was attached to the bottom location of the arm. Mine is in the middle and I have always had a weak reverse. Next time I'm down at the boat, I'm going to swap it to the bottom and see what happens. Let me know if I'm the only one with it in that location or if you also have it in the middle.

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Re: which Loos gauge?

What should the tension be for the uppers and lowers, and how do you tell if the front/rear stay is too loose?

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Diameter of lines

What diameter line should the roller furling and traveler use?

8mm or 6mm?

I do have marks where neutral is.

I just don't know if I need to adjust my reverse. I don't want to over it and mess something up.

I would also like to know where others neutral position is. If my lever is 90 degrees from the pedestal, then the transmission is out of the forward detente, but still will pull forward as if it is still in forward gear. It as to be about just above the reverse (about 7-8 O-Clock) for it to me in neutral and reverse is just below this.

Thanks in advance.

Engine and Drive Train / How to tell if your reverse needs adjustment
« on: July 01, 2014, 12:19:37 PM »
I have an Atomic 4 in my 323 and need to know if I should adjust my reverse. I can hear it go into reverse but don't know if it is slipping. It takes a lot to get it to slow/stop. Example; At 2-3k's in forward, I have to put it in reverse and rev it 2500-3000 rpm for five seconds to slow it down to a stand still, another 5 seconds will get it so start moving in reverse. Once it starts moving I do get some Port pull but think that is normal for this boat.

When tied up to the dock if I put it in reverse, I can tell that it is engaging and pulling at idle. I believe it is slipping at higher RPM's. Any comments on how much to adjust? I wish there was a way to check it with a feeler gauge.

Standing & Running Rigging and Fitting/Tuning / Standard rigging list
« on: June 11, 2014, 05:48:53 PM »
Is there a standard rigging list for this boat for lengths of lines? I'm looking for sheets, traveler, halyards and roller furling line lengths.

Thanks.

Did you ever find the info that you were looking for. I might have to do the same thing and would be interested in what you find.

I hate to think that someone just tossed them, and I hope that they are not just rotting away in a garage or basement somewhere.

I'll have a go on Sailnet.com with the same question. I would love to get a good copy, or the original, to hang up in my office.

I would like to know if you did it and what you used. I would like to know others thoughts on how the lazy cradle would block the reefing tie points and reef lines.

Also, where are you going to mount the winch on the cabin and what kind of blocks are you going to use?

Steering System, Hull Structure / Original line drawings

I would like to know where the original line drawings are. When Pearson closed shop did they toss them?

Also, did all 323's come with a helm seat or was that an option? And are there and formal plans for the helm seat?
